Physical Education!

Welcome to Highland PE where we want every student to feel included and accepted no matter what their athletic ability may be!

Please be reminded that students are allowed 2 parent excuse notes per quarter. Without a parent's note, students will be required to participate. If the child feels he/she cannot participate, that student is required to sit out of recess as well.

This year, in 3rd and 4th grade, we will focus on several topics. Please take a look at the topics below to gain an understanding of our curriculum and what your students will be learning!

1) Cooperative Games: In this unit, the students will learn the importance of cooperation and communication for success. They will be given a series of tasks and expected to complete them not quickly but efficiently. Stress management, communication, listening, and understanding will be the skills emphasized.

2) Physical Fitness Testing: Physical fitness testing will be done based on the Fitnessgram test. It will be done three times during the year, once in the fall and once in the spring, to see improvements. We also test in January to see what progress has been made! The test used is the Fitnessgram Pacer Test for cardiovascular endurance.

3) Fitness: Students will learn about the 5 health-related components of fitness: muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and body mass index through the use of various pieces of equipment.

4) SPORTS!: Sports take up most of our school year. Throughout our soccer, pickleball, volleyball, badminton, basketball, and hockey units, the students are not only taught the fundamentals of the sport but also sportsmanship and teamwork. Our focus is less on the competition and more on the inclusion of all students ensure every child gets the opportunity to learn and play.
