Cultural Awareness Week

This past week, our school community came together for a spectacular Cultural Awareness Week. It was a time dedicated to honoring the diverse histories, vibrant traditions, and unique stories that make our student body so special.

A major highlight of the week was Tuesday’s captivating assembly, "From Africa to Brazil." Students were taken on a musical and historical journey, exploring the deep cultural roots and rhythmic evolution that traveled across continents. A memorable moment for our students and staff was the demonstration of Capoeira. Students learned the story behind this unique Afro-Brazilian martial art, which disguises self-defense as dance. Through this presentation, our students gained a firsthand look at how culture and traditions were preserved through movement and song, even in the face of adversity.

The week culminated in our highly anticipated Multicultural Fair. We were honored to have over 15 different countries represented, each brought to life by our incredible school families. The gym was a whirlwind of activity, featuring: Families shared traditional dishes that offered a true taste of home. Students explored tables filled with heirlooms, maps, and traditional dress. Our parents and community members acted as "cultural ambassadors," answering questions and sparking curiosity in our young learners.

Thank You to Our Families! An event of this scale is only possible because of the generosity of our families. Whether you hosted a table, shared a family story, or helped coordinate the logistics, your contribution made this week an unforgettable educational experience. We are so proud to be a school where every student’s heritage is celebrated. As we head into Spring Break, we carry these lessons of global citizenship and community pride with us!
